April 15th

Today is April 15th, and since January..no, actually, December, I have been aware that this day was approaching. My mind was filled with memories of last year, driving all the way to the airport post office at 10:30 pm to be sure our taxes would be postmarked April 15th. In December I told myself that as soon as I received our W-2's, I would begin gathering together all the tax data for 2010 and rush to be the first to file. In January, I began putting tax data in the appropriate spot as it arrived in the mail. In February, having received our W-2's, I contemplated doing my taxes myself as I had done in years past, and I began mentally debating the pros and cons of a virtual vs actual tax program, i.e., Turbo Tax. In March, I approached Tom with the idea of getting an accountant to do the taxes this year as I recently retired, and it could get complicated. On April 1st, I attempted to do our taxes myself (virtually), and decided I was right..we need an accountant. Yesterday, I contacted an accountant and scheduled an appointment for today at 4:00. I am One of Those Who Waits to the Last Minute to File Taxes. In my defense, I would like to point out that I am apparently the ugly stepchild of the IRS, and they have not looked favorably upon me in the past multiple years. We have a love-hate relationship...they love to get my money - I hate them. And now I must close because my meeting with the accountant is in 3 hours, and I STILL don't have everything gathered. (shocking)
